Last season was the first time since his arrival in the Premier League that Erling Haaland suddenly seemed a little more… human.

Manchester City's talismanic striker still managed to win the Golden Boot – of course he did – but he also went through a dry spell between mid-December and mid-April that saw him score just three times in the league.

Of the the 14 games during that period, City failed to win half, a run of results that ultimately would cost them the title.

Even players of Haaland's quality are prone to dips in form but City's lack of another natural born finisher seems an issue that might need addressing long term, with Omar Marmoush clearly not fancied by the outgoing Pep Guardiola.

Perhaps the new man, still expected to be Enzo Maresca, will take a shine to the Egyptian forward – but if not, there are few more exciting forwards on the market than Bournemouth's young French starlet.

Signed from Ligue 2 Lorient – for whom he scored 22 goals – last summer, the 19-year-old has taken to the English top flight like a duck to water.

His 13 goals, with some exquisite finishes among them, are the most by a teenager in his debut Premier League season.

He won't be cheap but you get the sense he'll very quickly be worth every penny of his hefty price tag.
