Football Extra's Dream Signings: Manchester United

Aurelien Tchouameni will be a key member of France's World Cup squad when the tournament begins next week

There aren't many clubs who could tempt one of Real Madrid's prized assets away from the Bernabeu – but a Champions League bound Manchester United are surely one of them.
Between Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's failure to stake his claim to be first choice in United's midfield, the middle of the park needs strengthening even beyond Ederson's arrival this week.
With European commitments likely to put even further strain on their existing resource, poor old Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes will be begging to see another midfielder through the door.
Someone of Tchouameni's calibre would be ideal. At 26, he's entering his peak years but has already shown great maturity and footballing IQ at Madrid, having filled in as a makeshift centre back for many months under previous manager Carlo Ancelotti.
But at the base of midfield is where he does his best work. Statistically, he ranks inside the top 10% of performers across Europe's top five leagues in almost every metric you'd want from a player in his position.
Progressive passes, tackles and interceptions combined, clearances, ball recoveries, aerial wins, even expected assists; this guy can do it all.
He won't come cheap – he might not come at all – but his signature is one worth breaking the bank for.
