A firm of architects are convinced that buildings are a sensual experience and are asking you to photograph yourself interacting with bricks and mortar. ![]() Rosie practices what she preaches To celebrate architecture week, HLM Architects' Sheffield branch has set up a website showing pictures of SY people - shall we say "appreciating" - the city's buildings. They're looking for your creative shots of the bits of the built environment you love and, as some of the first photos show, you don't have to get unhygienic to get a great shot. There are all sorts of tricks you can play with perspective and reflections to get an angle on the architecture that inspires you. Let's get physical"It is aimed to get people noticing and enjoying Architecture through senses which tend not to be associated with it," said Rosie Williams, an architectural assistant at the firm. ![]() Gareth gets licky at the University of Sheffield She dreamed up the feature after seeing a picture of architect Carolyn Butterworth licking the Barcelona Pavilion - an exercise in interacting with buildings in a visceral way. The relationship between architecture and digital art is explored in I for Architecture at The Hubs on 22 June, as two presentations look at how support for digital art can be built into the fabric of the building, and how digital art can be central to a building’s use. Barnsley: Design your own townThe town centre's Solstice 06 celebrations have been combined with Architecture Week events to add a flavour of carnival to the Barnsley proceedings. Urban Interventions will help the public use 3D design technology to redesign the town's Market Street and Arcade areas, with advice from artists and architecture students. Urban Interventions will be open between 10am and 4pm from the 16th to the 21st June. ![]() Shrinking violet: Gareth with the Arts Tower Donaster: Blue BuildingDoncaster has a dedicated Design Centre on the High Street, which will be hosting exhibitions and events throughout the week. This includes the chance to get practical, professional advice on planning and architecture for free and a week-long exhibition showcasing both cutting edge energy efficient design and the town's historic buildings. Dearne PlayhouseIn the Dearne Valley, the newly refurbished Dearne Playhouse will be throwing open its doors to the public. The former Miners Welfare Hall, which dates back to 1924 is getting a new lease of life as a theatre thanks to a £1m makeover.
