A judge in the US state of New Mexico has fined Meta, the parent company for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, more than half a billion dollars for failing to warn the public about the risks its platforms poses to children. In the largest fine Meta has received over child safety issues, the judge ruled Meta's conduct amounted to a public nuisance by contributing to a severe youth mental health crisis.
