One in a Million: a decade through the eyes of a Syrian girl

Newshour

Available for over a year

"One in a Million" is a new documentary - filmed over 10 years, following a Syrian family, that flees the fighting in Aleppo in 2015 and travels through the Balkans to Germany as refugees. The film makers, Itab Azzam and Jack MacInnes, follow the experiences of the family through the difficult journey and then the challenges of building a new life - in a the totally new culture of Germany - before, years later, returning back to Syria after the fall of the Assad regime.... The story particularly focusses on the eldest of 4 children - Israa who was just 11 years old when she met film maker Itab Azzam - who was also born in Syria. Newshour's Rebecca Kesby has been speaking to both of them - and Itab told her first more about the film - and that first fateful meeting with Israa.
