Hospitals Trust apologises for failing maternity care

Need To Know Leicestershire

Available for over a year

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has apologised for failings in maternity care highlighted by a government ordered rapid review. The trust is one of 12 across the country examined by Baroness Valerie Amos and her team as part of an investigation into maternity care across England. Its findings were released on Tuesday with families describing care as "inconsistent" in Leicester. The report identifies themes including women not being listened to, staffing problems, and racism. Jo Holland, from Countesthorpe, said her family had been "forever changed" by the "unforgivable" death of her grandson at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2022. Baby Mason was delivered stillborn with his cause of death recorded as pre-eclampsia. BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman spoke with health correspondent Rob Sissons and Jo Holland.
