'Shocking' rise in racist and homophobic exclusions
Available for over a year
Thousands of school exclusions across the North East are being linked to racist, homophobic, or disablist abuse since the pandemic. A report by the BBC's data unit into government figures discovered 4,000 reports relating to these kinds of abuse between September 2020 and April last year. Education specialists say cuts to anti-bullying support and wider societal issues are contributing to a growing problem. Amy Oakden introduces Joanna Morris, who has the story - which does contain themes of suicide and some of what you are about to hear you may find distressing. Image: Getty
