The Women Conned by a Romance Fraudster

Latest News Picks

Available for over a year

Imagine starting a relationship with someone, only to eventually realise they'd been conning you out of thousands of pounds. For this episode of our 5 Minutes On podcast, 5 Live's Clare McDonnell hears the stories of three women who were all deceived by a fraudster called Peter Gray, who they met on the dating app, Tinder. One of them even had a baby with him, not knowing his true story. Gray, from Mirfield in West Yorkshire, was recently jailed for 56 months for defrauding four women in scams totalling £80,000. Tinder says it encourages users to use their photo verification 'blue tick' service, and also that it also uses pop up messages to warn about fraud. For details of organisations which offer advice and support if you’ve been affected by fraud, go to bbc.co.uk/actionline.
