Call You & Yours: How do you feel about fireworks?

You and Yours

Available for over a year

On today's Call You and Yours we want to hear about how you celebrate Bonfire Night and Diwali. We're asking: How do you feel about fireworks? This time of year we hear more fireworks than usual thanks to a series of events and celebrations. But, not everyone likes the bangs and fizzes, especially our pets and other wildlife. This year the government consulted on the types of fireworks for sale and whether there should be restrictions on how loud they can be. The consultation was launched after two successful petitions signed by hundreds of thousands of people prompted a Parliamentary debate. One petition called for a ban on sales except for those putting on council approved events, and the other petition proposed limiting the noise they can make. Many of us might be hearing more bangs going off because some city and local town councils that would previously have had free or low cost displays stopped putting them on during Covid because of the pandemic, but also to save money. That means in some areas more people are buying fireworks to have their own celebrations in their gardens. There's strict rules on who can buy fireworks and the types available in shops, but they're really easy to buy with a lot of supermarkets now stocking them. How do you feel about fireworks? Call us on 03700 100 444 after 11am Or you can email us: youandyours@bbc.co.uk. PRESENTER: WINIFRED ROBINSON PRODUCER: LYDIA THOMAS
