Uruguayan rhythms and whole foods

Cerys Matthews

Available for 28 days

Cerys hosts your Sunday sonic and cultural adventure and chats with Jorge Drexler about the Afro-Uruguayan musical tradition, plus Nick Saltmarsh on his debut book Whole Food. Jorge Drexler is a Uruguayan singer, songwriter and composer whose work moves between Latin American musical traditions, poetry, science and experimentation. He’s joining following the release of his new album TARACÁ, which marks a reconnection with Uruguay and with the Afro-Uruguayan musical tradition of candombe, whose rhythmic clave runs throughout the record. Nick Saltmarsh is the co-founder and director of Hodmedod, a British food company championing homegrown beans, pulses, grains and seeds. He’s just released his debut cookbook, Whole Food, co-written with fellow Hodmedod co-founder Josiah Meldrum. The book celebrates the diversity of whole foods, connecting traditional cooking, nutrition and sustainable British farming. Produced by BBC Audio for BBC Radio 6 Music.
