The Grand Final of BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Classical Musician 2026 features three of Scotland’s talented young musicians performing alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with conductor Jonathan Bloxham. Our finalists are; Oboist Alasdair Cottee, performing Vaughan Williams : Concerto for Oboe and Strings Cellist Finn Mannion, performing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, (1st Movement, Allegro). Pianist Anastasia-Maria Barbu, performing Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, variations 11-24. Plus, before the judges announce the winner, the BBC SSO perform the second of three overtures with a theme of nature by Antonin Dvorak. Carnivale Overture combines exuberance and high spirits with moments of warmth and tenderness.
