The summer repertory season at The Playhouse was launched with a rip-roaring start, when Bruce James Productions presented Run For Your Wife. As always, The Playhouse favourite, Damien Williams, turned in an hilarious performance as Lucky Eric. Former EastEnders star, Andrew Lynford, who played John Smith, a gormless bigamist taxi driver, was equally amusing. Two homes and two wives With two homes (and two wives!) to keep happy, taxi driver John was constantly stretched to the limit. The wives (Mary, played by Julie Fox, and Barbara, played by Anna Stolli) were suitably, almost gullible. Gradually though, Smith's chickens came home to roost as his deception was revealed. Amusing moments The prize for the most amusing moment goes to the detective sergeant of police, who said to Smith "keep taking the tabloids", as Smith was chewing the local newspaper. This was a hard decision, as Eric's extolling of the virtues of unemployment ("terrific hours"), and John's acronyms (CDWB - Cuddly Day With Barbara), made it a close run. This short season of four farces continues with the John Godber classic, Bouncers, which will be staged between 17 and 20 August, 2005. |
