Prior to his Weston-super-Mare gig, Tony Hadley was last in Somerset in January 2004 with Go West's Peter Cox, when the former frontmen of the 80s took to the stage after reliving their heydays on the reality show, Reborn in the USA. The hit show saw 10 pop stars from yesteryear battle it out on stage in America. Tony Hadley eventually proved to be top crooner, beating fellow 80s and 90s stars such as Gina G, Sonia and, of course, Peter Cox. Tony is used to being top dog: Spandau Ballet was one of the leading lights of the New Romantic era and clocked up a fair few hits, including Gold, Through the Barricades, Lifeline and, of course, the ever-popular True. Although Spandau Ballet split somewhat acrimoniously, Tony continues to tour and perform the songs which made him famous, with Spandau drummer John Keeble and saxophonist Steve Norman sometimes still joining him on stage. ...but Martin's got The Look of Love Martin Fry, lead singer of 80s chart-toppers ABC (yes he of the blonde flick and gold suit), will also be on stage with Tony. Purveyors of "perfect pop" in the early 80s, ABC's debut single, Tears Are Not Enough, made the UK Top 20 in late 1981.  | | Lovin' the gold suit, Martin |
The following year, ABC cemented their reputation, with three UK Top 10 hits in a seven-month period: Poison Arrow, The Look of Love and All of my Heart. Their pristine pop songs were showcased on their debut album, The Lexicon of Love which crashed into the album charts at No. 1. It's still regarded as one of the best British pop LPs of the decade. More recently, ABC have toured with the likes of Robbie Williams, and Martin has continued to lead the band on the 80s revival circuit.
