US delegation for negotiations with Iran lands in Islamabad

The peace talks come amid a fragile two-week ceasefire between Iran and the US, brokered by Pakistan.

US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Islamabad alongside the US delegation. Peace talks are due to begin in Pakistan’s capital today. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf has said a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Tehran’s frozen assets must happen before negotiations begin.

Also in the programme: after a “textbook touchdown”, the four astronauts of the Artemis II lunar mission have safely returned to Earth; and scientists are predicting a change in global weather patterns later this year, caused by an expected El Niño event.

Presenter Julian Worricker is joined by Dr Roxane Farmanfarmaian, a professor of international politics and specialist on the Middle East at the University of Cambridge, and Jeanna Smialek, Brussels bureau chief at The New York Times.
