Kenya publishes China-funded railway details

Kenya’s transport minister Kipchumba Murkomen has published previously unreleased details about the China-funded Standard Gauge Railway project. The country’s new president William Ruto had pledged to make details of the deal public during the recent election campaign. Some aspects of the agreement have elicited controversy, with any disputes to be arbitrated in Beijing, and the main contractor exempted from paying taxes.

Plus, we’re at COP27 in Egypt where world leaders and those from around Africa are meeting at the global climate summit. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned that the world is “on a highway to climate hell with our foot still on the accelerator.”
