
Somalia faces looming humanitarian crisis
More than seven million in Somalia are in urgent need of food and shelter, says aid agency.
The aid agency, Islamic Relief, warns of a major catastrophe unless more is done to help the more than seven million people in Somalia who are in dire need of food, water and critical interventions.
The whereabouts of dozens of former Ethiopian peacekeepers with the UN - mostly of Tigrayan ethnicity, is still a mystery. Many had refused to return home after their mission, hoping to seek asylum in neighbouring Sudan.
And Kenya’s religious leaders have appealed for a calm and peaceful transition of power to the new administration. The chair of Kenya’s Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Martin Kivuva, also calls on new President Ruto to ensure “an inclusive government”.
