South Sudan: President Kiir dissolves parliament

In line with the terms of the 2018 peace deal signed between the country’s warring factions, South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir has dissolved parliament. 550 lawmakers from different political parties will now be appointed to constitute the new parliament.

Meanwhile, more than 100 Ethiopian soldiers who served as peacekeepers with the UN mission in Darfur, Sudan have applied for asylum in that country. Recently a group of Tigrayan soldiers refused to go back to Ethiopia, citing fear of persecution.
