'Let's let people keep more of their own money'
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen spoke on the BBC Radio Tees Hotseat about wanting to give residents tax rebates over keeping a share of income tax and business rates to reinvest locally.
This comes after Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced plans to give all mayors of city regions in England a share of income tax revenue for the first time, as part of his drive to transfer power from Westminster to local leaders.
Full details will be set out at the Budget in the autumn.
