'It's not just losing the pregnancy, it's the future'

Northern Ireland has become the first part of the UK where couples can get two weeks of paid leave if they have a miscarriage.

Bex Gardiner had a miscarriage eight years ago and spoke to Gary Philipson about the new law.

The Westminster government is planning to bring in a change in 2027 to give parents the right to take unpaid leave for the minimum of a week following a miscarriage at any stage of pregnancy.

Across the UK, parents are currently entitled to paid statutory leave after a stillbirth at 24 weeks or later.
