Ukraine: 'You're not our priority' officials tell African evacuees
Nigerian Dr. Awofaa Gogo Abite has described the ill treatment and discrimination he and others faced at the Ukrainian border. The medic, who has lived and practiced in Ukraine for many years, was trying to cross into Poland. He says he spent more than 18 hours waiting in line as he and other groups of black people were repeatedly told to go to the back of the queue by border officials. He says officials pushed and yelled, and told them to "get out" and "get lost". He told Focus on Africa, he now he wants to use his experience to help and advise those still trying to leave Ukraine.
