Cannabis dependence: Is gender bias affecting the treatment of women?
Cannabis dependence is frequently considered a “male-only problem”, leading to significant gender bias in the way that it is assessed and treated, according to Ian Hamilton, lecturer in addiction and mental health. This means that the number of dependent women is vastly underestimated, and that even once diagnosed, women are not getting the treatment they need. He discusses with BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray.
