It is that time of year again, with vast swathes of Britain falling below freezing as the frost blows in.

But how would you describe this wintry landscape?

Robert Macfarlane, author of The Lost Words; a Spell Book, tweets a nature word each day. He shared his favourite winter words with The World at One.
