Bombed out of their homes and fired at by government troops, over a million Syrians have fled their country to seek refuge abroad. Over 70,000 have died in the conflict. Now more gruesome figures have emerged - hundreds have drowned in an attempt to reach Europe and thousands have been detained in Greek jails. Sue Lloyd-Roberts asks whether this is an acceptable response to a humanitarian crisis.
