Fascinating Fungi
Tom Heap and Helen Czerski delve into the world of fungi, finding out about their amazing abilities and the ways in which they may hold answers to our environmental problems.
Fungi hold an air of the mysterious and the magical. They can be single celled or complex multicellular organisms and are found in almost any habitat - mostly in soil or plant material. They do not photosynthesise, but instead live inside their food and secrete enzymes to break down nutrients which they then absorb. In this programme, Tom Heap and Helen Czerski explore the wonders of the world of fungi, and find out about the uses to which we might put their amazing abilities. Could they hold the answer to some of today's environmental problems?
