Young Africans share why they quit jobs they describe as toxic, and we examine whether Gen Z is less willing than older generations to tolerate stressful workplaces.

An in-depth weekly conversation focusing on a topical issue in Africa. In this episode of Focus on Africa: The Conversation, we ask: Is Gen Z less willing to put up with stressful jobs than older generations?

A 2025 Deloitte survey found that 40% of Gen Z respondents felt stressed or anxious all or most of the time compared to 34% of millennials. Also, Gallup's latest workplace report found that only about one in five employees in sub-Saharan Africa are engaged at work.

We hear from two young women who say they resigned from jobs because of toxic working environments and look at what younger workers are demanding from today's workplace.

Hosted by Nkechi Ogbonna, this episode features 23-year-old Vivian Eneche from Abuja and 30-year-old GG Wambara from Nairobi. They discuss what inspired their decision to resign from jobs due to what they claim was a toxic working environment.
