Inuit throat singing and South African harmonies

Lopa Kothari presents the best in folk and roots-based music from around the world, with picks from Kronos Quartet founder David Harrington.

Lopa Kothari presents the best in folk and roots-based music from around the world, including tracks from artists appearing at the 2026 London Jazz Festival. Among the standout names on this year’s bill are South African a cappella ensemble The Joy and Buenos Aires-based band TRÍADA, whose music draws on their Argentine and Latin American roots. Plus, Kronos Quartet founder David Harrington shares his Return Journey selections: Inuit throat singing that he says changed his life and the music of Kronos Quartet; and a Central African funeral lament that he often returns to late at night when he has the house to himself.
