Live concert from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales

Mark Forrest presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making, featuring a live concert from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and highlights from this years Cowbridge Music Festival.

At the heart of today’s programme is a live concert from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff, joined by pianist Frank Dupree for music by Gershwin alongside Stravinsky’s The Firebird, conducted by Sasha Scolnik-Brower.

The programme also features recent recordings from the orchestra that celebrate Welsh musical identity. Alun Hoddinott’s Welsh Dances, Suite No. 2 captures the energy and character of Welsh musical traditions, while William Mathias’s Festival Overture brings a sense of occasion through its vibrant rhythms and bold orchestral writing.

Elsewhere, there are highlights from the Cowbridge Festival, an annual celebration of music which brings Welsh and international artists together. Today, pianist Llŷr Williams plays music by Debussy.
