Early Music Today

Hannah French chats to Masato Suzuki, Principal Conductor of Bach Collegium Japan, pays tribute to trumpet player and maker David Staff, and explores a raft of new recordings.

Hannah French chats to Masato Suzuki, the celebrated harpsichordist and Principal Conductor of Bach Collegium Japan, ahead of the ensemble's performance of Messiah in London next month.

Hannah pays tribute to virtuoso trumpet player and maker David Staff, who was at the forefront of the revival of the baroque trumpet and has been principal trumpet with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century since it was formed in 1981.

There's news from Gabrieli Roar's latest project, 'Mr Handel's Christmas Story', and a wealth of other new recordings to explore, including recent releases from lutenist and guitarist Toby Carr and world premiere recordings of works published by the 18th-century female publisher Jeanne Roger from recorder player Heidi Fardell.
