Call You & Yours: "What's student accommodation like where you study?"
Today on Call You & Yours we want to hear from students and parents about paying for somewhere to live while you study at University.
The UK's largest student accommodation provider Unite has reduced rents for the first time in 25 years. It's because there are far fewer international students, but also more UK students are choosing to live at home with their parents.
In 2017, 535,090 people said they intended to live at home during their university course. In 2026, 748,060 said they'd stay at home - an increase of 39.8%, according to figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.
If you do choose to live in your University town and city costs can really vary where it is in the country. But there's widespread recognition that the maintenance loan does not cover the cost of rent. Many students work to supplement their living costs.
And then there's the quality of what you're paying for - what's the condition of your home?
