Navratri: Faith, family and friendship
Four young Hindus share what Navratri means to them, from faith and family traditions to music and dance.
Nine nights of worship, music, dancing and celebration. Navratri is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar, celebrating the triumph of good over evil. The festival honours the Goddess Durga, who's associated with protection, strength and motherhood. But there’s more than one way to experience the event, especially for young Hindus navigating faith, family traditions and their own identities.
Amber Haque speaks to Komal, Radhi, Samyak and Hetvi about what Navratri means to them, how they celebrate and how they hope to carry those traditions forward. From the music and outfits to garba, a traditional dance that brings communities together, they also explore the social side of the festival, including opportunities for a little bit of matchmaking.
