Can Sex Work Be Safer in Thailand?

The alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl in a Thai city notorious for sex tourism has renewed a discussion about why sex work remains illegal in Thailand. Police allege a 45-year-old Australian man killed and then dumped the body of the teenager, after bringing her back to his apartment for paid sexual services. Despite being well known for huge red-light districts in major cities, Thailand still outlaws commercial sex work and advocates say legalising it could make it safer.
