The alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl in a Thai city notorious for sex tourism has renewed a discussion about why sex work remains illegal in Thailand. Police allege a 45-year-old Australian man killed and then dumped the body of the teenager, after bringing her back to his apartment for paid sexual services. Despite being well known for huge red-light districts in major cities, Thailand still outlaws commercial sex work and advocates say legalising it could make it safer.

Asia Specific host Mariko Oi talks to journalist Panisa Aemocha from BBC Thai and child safety advocate Siromes Akrapongpanich.
