Fresh, dreamy sounds… with Zakia
In the blistering heat of the summer, Zakia brings cool, breezy sounds to soothe you, plus, we hear from artist Lau Ro who takes us down the Portal.
DJ, broadcaster, writer and dreamer Zakia Sewell provides the soundtrack to your dreams - playing music to ease the mind, soothe the soul, and open portals to new dimensions.
In the blistering heat of the summer, Zakia brings you cool, breezy sounds from all over the world, including hillbilly erotica from America, a pioneering mix of local Malaysian folk, Latin rhythms and modern jazz, courtesy of visionary composer, pianist and arranger, the Malaysian cultural icon, Alfonso Soliano. Plus, there’s radical 80s Ethiopian synth sounds, new DIY music from Tuareg musician Amanar de Kidal, and plenty of orchestral pieces in celebration of this week’s guest.
Fresh from the release of their second, beautifully cinematic album ‘Lau’, Brighton-based Saõ Paulo-born musician Lau Ro joins us for a trip down the Portal. Alongside breaking down the meaning behind a few of the tracks on their new album, Lau shares a dream from childhood that has stuck with them, and tells us about a track that brings them to a mystical world, flying above a cityscape in a swell of peace and calm.
