National Youth Advocacy Service

NYAS believe that no child or young person should be alone or voiceless in the care system. Through advocacy, legal representation, mentoring and helplines, we support care-experienced children and young people when it matters most.

Meet “Louis”

Meet “Louis”
When Louis, not his real name, left care, he was alone and felt very isolated. At risk of homelessness, his mental health deteriorated. Then he met NYAS volunteer John, who helped him with everything from bills to taking better care of himself.

Simple things that make a big difference

Simple things that make a big difference
NYAS volunteers help young people build confidence and find community, through activities like cookery classes with other care leavers. John and Louis spent time doing simple things that made a big difference – like food shopping or going for a walk.

Side-by-Side with care leavers

Side-by-Side with care leavers
With your help, more care leavers will be matched with a volunteer through NYAS’s Side-by-Side programme: someone to listen and care, so they don’t have to navigate life alone. It’s thanks to this support that “Louis” is in control of his future.
