Emilie Mayer's Symphony in F minor performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra

Linton Stephens introduces an afternoon of specially made recordings including musical highlights from the BBC Philharmonic, LSO St Luke's and Ensemble Molière.

Linton Stephens presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, prior to its appearances at the BBC Proms. Frank Bridge’s Enter Spring bursts with energy and colour, while Émilie Mayer’s Symphony in F minor offers sweeping romantic intensity. Bohuslav Martinů’s The Rock, is a rhythmic, nature-inspired orchestral study, and Jean Sibelius’ The Swan of Tuonela provides a hauntingly beautiful depiction of still, dark waters, featuring a solo cor anglais.

From LSO St Luke’s, pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips is joined by pianist Philip Moore and violist Lawrence Power in a week of specially recorded performances from the pianist with friends. And also specially recorded items from the National Centre for Early Music and BBC R3 New Generation Baroque Ensemble - Ensemble Augelletti.
