Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier
In tribute to the late soprano Dame Felicity Lott, a chance to hear her in one of her signature roles, the Marschallin, in a recording of Der Rosenkavalier from 1990.
In tribute to the late soprano Dame Felicity Lott, another chance to hear her in one of her signature roles, the Marschallin, in a recording of Der Rosenkavalier from the New York Met in 1990.
The Marschallin is deeply in love with her young lover Octavian but knows that she's getting older and one day he'll tire of her. Her fears are realised sooner than she thought when he presents a ceremonial silver rose to Sophie, and falls instantly in love with her. Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier contains comedy, pathos, and some truly beautiful writing for his female characters. In this classic recording, along with Felicity Lott as the Marschallin, Anne Sofie Von Otter sings her lover Octavian and Barbara Bonnie sings Sophie. Carlos Kleiber conducts.
Kate Molleson presents, and is joined by Iain Burnside.
