The Big Dance is coming to York
The Big Dance is coming to York

Dance in advance!

The Big Dance Class, taking place on July 22nd, is your chance to help set the record for the World's Biggest Dance Class. You don't need to know a thing about dancing, but if you're keen to do it well, why not try out the steps right now?!

On Saturday 22 July, BBC Radio York is attempting a world record for the greatest number of people to participate in a dance class simultaneously - and you're invited!

Around the country, people will be taking part in the BBC Local Radio Big Dance Class. To be a record breaker, you just need to join in the 10-minute specially-designed dance class which starts at 12.30pm at Rowntree Park in York.

Don't worry if you're new to dancing as you can learn the dance step-by-step. Just click on the links below for short videos of choreographer Luca Silvistrini and London Dance Captain Natasha Gilmore taking you through all five steps.

People of all ages are welcome on the day and you don't need to be an expert, in fact, even if you've got two left feet you can still get involved. We've provided all the tuition you need before the record attempt above - so get involved and have some fun.

After the record attempt, watch Dancing In The Street with Bruce Forsyth on BBC One. It will be broadcast on the evening of 22 July and will include coverage of the Big Dance Class across England.

That’s when you'll find out if the world record attempt was successful!

The Big Dance Class is part of Big Dance 2006 - a season of events put on by Arts Council England to celebrate dance. The season runs from 15 to 23 July 2006 and encourages you to get into dancing.
