The charred remains of the zoo café

Fire at zoo

A fire has destroyed a café at Belfast Zoo, leaving a pile of charred wood in place of the hilltop building.

The blaze broke out at around midnight and took firefighters several hours to bring under control.

However, none of the animals was affected by the fire and staff say the zoo itself is open for business as usual.

Conor Macauley reports.
