School grieves for young brothers killed in car crash

The deaths of two young brothers in a car crash during half term has left their school grieving and in shock, a head teacher has said.

Tobias and Finley Rice, pupils at the Priory CE Primary School in Christchurch, Dorset, were fatally injured on the A30 near Hayle, Cornwall, on 29 May.

Tobias, who was eight, was pronounced dead at the scene and Finley, five,died in hospital three days later.

Priory head teacher Simon Croutear, who released the boys' names with the permission of their family, said they were "cherished members of our school family" and would be "immensely missed".

"Our whole school community has been shocked and grieved by the tragic loss of Tobias and Finley," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with their family who we are in touch with and are supporting in every way we can."

He added that support was also being offered to pupils and staff following the boys' deaths.

Two women in the same car as the boys, one in her 70s, suffered serious injuries.

A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital but later discharged.

A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was treated for minor injuries and released while inquiries continue.
