Craig Pickering: In good shape

Pickering, 21, from Milton Keynes, said conditions in Macau made it an ideal place build up to Beijing where the athletes were going to have to contend with heat and humidity.

"It is difficult but it's the same for everyone, but we just have to get our heads down and get on with it," he said.

He said he was in "pretty good shape", but added that he was trying to be realistic about his Olympic prospects in the 4x100 metres relay and the 100 metres.

"There are a lot of people who run a lot faster than me so if I can make the semi-finals - that's the top 16 in the world - that would be a really good achievement.

"If I make the final that would be brilliant."
