Julie Nicholson resigned from her priesthood at St Aidan's Church in Bristol after the death of her 24-year-old daughter Jenny. The young musician died in the explosion at Edgware Road. Since then, Mrs Nicholson has been unable to reconcile her feelings over her daughter's death with being a priest - she eventually resigned from her post. She said: "I do not forgive them for what they did and I do not think they should be forgiven." She told BBC Radio Four's Today programme that her feelings about the bombings now were "very similar" to how they had been 12 month ago. Mrs Nicholson said she could speak words of forgiveness, but they would be meaningless to her. She said: "Forgiveness comes with justice and there's kind of not going to be any of that so I think forgiveness, for me, is something I am going to put to one side." She had felt "so damaged" that she had been unable to lead her congregation in taking the Eucharist and words of peace, reconciliation and forgiveness. However, she has remained within the priesthood and has said she will continue to work with young people in the Bristol diocese. |
