One Year On

BBC London 94.9 marks the anniversary of the London Bombings with a day of special programmes on Friday 7 July 2006.

You can listen again to Jono Coleman & JoAnne Good live from Tavistock Square (recorded 6-9am). Vanessa Feltz (9am-12noon) will recount the events as they unfolded a year ago and Eddie Nestor (12noon-3pm) will commemorate the spirit of London as we look back to the events which changed London; and take a look ahead.

The Drivetime show with Eddie Nestor and Kath Melandri will come live from the commemoration service at Regent's Park (5-7pm).

You can listen to the 12noon chimes from Big Ben as London falls silent to remember the victims of the London bombings.

BBC London's Alison Freeman spoke to Kevin Hume, a firefighter of Soho Red Watch, who had finished his nightshift and stayed on to do overtime on the morning of 7 July last year. Alison also spoke to Shelia Henry who lost her son Christian in the 7 July bomb attacks.

As news began to filter through that London had been hit be a number of bomb attacks commuters quickly called BBC London 94.9 with eyewitness accounts.

Listeners to the Jon Gaunt show were among the first to ring in with details describing this morning's harrowing scenes.

Mayor Ken Livingstone addressed the attackers during a statement to Londoners from Singapore. He called them "cowardly terrorists" and vowed that the capital would quickly recover.

The true extent of the events was revealed at the emergency services' press conference at the Queen Elizabeth II hall. Use the link in the right-hand column to hear our report.
