FeaturesYou are in: Liverpool > Entertainment > Music > Features > The Quarter ![]() The Quarter playing live The QuarterBy Blast reporter Kelly O'Connor The Quarter who formed in early 2004, have made an impact on the Liverpool music scene. Playing regular gigs in music venues around the city has given them a big following. I went down to their practice room on Dale Street to find out more about them The band consists of 5 lads Anthony Godfrey, Tom Willow, Gavin O’Hara, Tony Hargreaves and Mick ‘Bomber’ Graham. Ant and Gavin were in a previous band together and then ended up forming the Quarter with Ant’s cousin Tom, Tom’s mate Tony and Mick who the band described as everyone’s uncle, even mine! A confusing mixture of meetings but the band blend well together and all bring a certain style and character to the music. After buying their own studio equipment the band have been experimenting with recording techniques and Anthony said ‘The only way to learn is to get in there and make mistakes, and we have made a few and hopefully we can get them better next time.’ ![]() Getting ready to play I went to the Quarters gig at the Barfly in July were they were headlining. Having seen them before I knew what to expect but the band impressed me with their catchy lyrics like from new song ‘D.J NYC’ and their funky riffs. The other bands made me drawn to the bar but when the Quarter came on they made me want to listen and dance. Lead singer Anthony has a majestic stage presence which helped the atmosphere. He commented ‘On stage I'm a little manic… and I haven't even had a bevy!’ I asked the band about their influences and although varied from jazz to reggae their main was Oasis. Anthony said that their music ‘Blew my mind’ and thinks that nowadays people think their to cool too mention Oasis. ‘They throw a mad leather jacket on, grow a bit of a mad hair cut, throw a pair of kick flares on, and they think there to cool to go, yeah Oasis are good.’ The band have got gigs lined up for the next few months including the Carling Academy and Liverpool University. The band have the right mixture but are yet to be signed Anthony said ‘It’s all to do with someone giving us a chance and in return we'll give them a chance as well, and that’s from the heart that.’ last updated: 08/08/07 You are in: Liverpool > Entertainment > Music > Features > The Quarter
