Widnes band The Odds

The Odds and Blast reporter Kelly

The Odds

They may be odd by name but not in music. Adam, Michael, Ben and Danny from Widnes have a blend of indie rock that is so popular in today’s music scene.

The band formed in late 2005 and met through friends and relatives. They had their first gig 2 months after forming and began playing the pubs in Widnes like the Vic and the Apo.

The band said they proffered to gig in Liverpool but mentioned that the crowds are completely different. Adam said ‘It’s got to be the Widnes fans.’ Michael said ‘No comment’ to which Adam said ‘No comment mate?!… Widnes till I die.’

The band have been in Manchester recording new songs and are looking forward to playing the Carling Academy on the 11th August 2007. This gig came about through playing at the Magnet and pestering them on myspace for a gig. They're also playing in the final of 'rock star wars' at the Barfly on the 17th August.

The bands songs vary in style from the very rock and roll ‘Little number’ to the more chilled out ‘Stolen Souls’ and influences from David Bowie to the Arctic Monkeys reflect in their music. Adam liked songs that were like ‘Pumping, rock it, go for it.’
The bands mySpace is very impressive with over 41,907 hits, 109,700 plays and 8220 friends (phew!) Adam said ‘MySpace is the way forward’

The band write all their own songs and has some thoughtful lyrics and melodic riffs which when played live make you want to sit up and listen. I saw the band last year headlining at the Barfly and when I met up with them they played some acoustic songs for me and I could tell they had improved and more together. The bands mySpace heavily states about wanting a manager and some guidance and I think that this is the next step for them to really get out there.

The band show real ambition and say that they would like to do a UK tour and are trying to set it up for October. Michael said ‘We just want to get out there.’ and Adam said ‘We want to take over the world really, pinky and the brain like!’
On whether they would like to go mainstream or stay more indie they said ‘No, go for it, we want to reach the top, get number 1, which would be nice…’
