Sean Finlay was there for BBC Liverpool. The Barfly in Liverpool was the venue for Rock Star Wars part II. Despite the lack of a substantial crowd, there was just enough anticipation in the air. Dicks Orchard are four local lads from Bootle who kicked off their set with Oakland Rd, a bluesy rock number filled with melodic lead guitar, stomping rhythm, and a hard rolling drum beat which kept everything in check. If this was the caliber of what was in store from the band tonight then it was sure to end on a high note.
No gimmicksAs the crowd gathered front of stage and the gentle sway began, the band soon had the Barfly giving them their full attention. Singing duties were shared between guitarist and bass player with harmonica added to a couple of the rockier songs. It was soon time to slow things down a little with 'Name in Neon', a Dylan-esque lyric, and a catchy melody. This was an evening of music where the songs sounded familiar although you have never heard them before. With a few more gigs under their belt, they will have a full set worth of songs that are definitely worth a listen. The majority of the audience had an average age of between seventeen to twenty, so we can rest assured knowing that our good old friend rock and roll can still get down with the kids. Dicks Orchard showcased songs with no gimmicks, no tricks, just tried and tested song writing skills, and catchy beats. Next time the Orchard is in bloom near you, pay them a visit. last updated: 30/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Liverpool > Entertainment > Music > Event Reviews > Dicks Orchard @ Barfly
