Creamfields
Creamfield is moving to Daresbury

Creamfields faces objections

Creamfields new site at Daresbury has come under fire from local residents who object to the damage it could do to their small community. Add your comments here.

Organisers of Creamfields are hoping to hold this year’s festival in Daresbury, but many people living near the proposed site say they'll object to the license application.

Halton Borough Council is expected to decide next month whether or not the event can be staged on the outskirts of the village.

If the festival is given the go-ahead more than 40,000 people will descend on the site during August Bank Holiday weekend.

Creamfields attracts over 40,000 people

Creamfields has been held on the site of the old Speke airport but this year organisers have moved the event to nearby Halton. The site is between the villages of Daresbury and Hatton.

Julian Wrigley, Vice chair of Hatton Parish Council, says local residents fear traffic, noise and litter “One of the accesses to it comes straight through our village off the M56 and we believe it’s an entirely unsuitable location to hold an event of this nature.”

Cream’s Chief Executive James Barton says he appreciates residents will have concerns, “An event of this size with the amount of people attending will create further traffic and will create disruption to the local area. But we believe that the team and the experts we’ve assembled and the investment and resources we’re providing to the event will keep that to a minimum.

“We’ve been very honest and very transparent with everybody, all the stakeholders in Daresbury, Hatton and Warrington. In saying this event does bring disruption, but it brings some benefits also.”

This year's Creamfields will be headlined by The Prodigy with the line up also including Gnarls Barkley, Goldfrapp and The Zutons. The Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th August.

Runcorn and the surrounding area have suffered badly in the past and this show could do a lot to regenerate this area the local people sorry thats wrong there are very few local people here now most have moved here for the houses in an area with one of the best motorway systems in the UK for commuting and they would never get these houses elsewhere for the price it is just airs and graces with these people and where they intend to hold this show there are hardly any people in that area I am in my 50s and have lived in Runcorn for 30 years I am all for this show being given the go ahead.

We use to go to Darsbury strawberry picking . Now its looks like you will be able to get cream as well. My advice for the people of Darsbury and Hatton is to buy a good set of ear plugs. You will need them.
