Organisers of Creamfields are hoping to hold this year’s festival in Daresbury, but many people living near the proposed site say they'll object to the license application. Halton Borough Council is expected to decide next month whether or not the event can be staged on the outskirts of the village. If the festival is given the go-ahead more than 40,000 people will descend on the site during August Bank Holiday weekend. | | Creamfields attracts over 40,000 people |
Creamfields has been held on the site of the old Speke airport but this year organisers have moved the event to nearby Halton. The site is between the villages of Daresbury and Hatton. Julian Wrigley, Vice chair of Hatton Parish Council, says local residents fear traffic, noise and litter “One of the accesses to it comes straight through our village off the M56 and we believe it’s an entirely unsuitable location to hold an event of this nature.” | | Cream Chief Exec - James Barton |
Cream’s Chief Executive James Barton says he appreciates residents will have concerns, “An event of this size with the amount of people attending will create further traffic and will create disruption to the local area. But we believe that the team and the experts we’ve assembled and the investment and resources we’re providing to the event will keep that to a minimum. “We’ve been very honest and very transparent with everybody, all the stakeholders in Daresbury, Hatton and Warrington. In saying this event does bring disruption, but it brings some benefits also.” This year's Creamfields will be headlined by The Prodigy with the line up also including Gnarls Barkley, Goldfrapp and The Zutons. The Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th August. |
