Epoch is the title of a new exhibition from artist, Christopher Campbell. In this new show, we delve into Campbell's improbable yet believable world, created in humour, beauty and fantasy, shrouded in darkness. | | Mother's Pride by Christopher Campbell |
The paintings depict images of desolate English suburbia bathing in unnatural light while wildlife and livestock roam brazenly, not hidden by shadow or man. The pseudo-apocalyptic environment illustrated within these works presents the question ‘What has happened to the human race?’ There are a couple of events related to this exhibition: Talk - Painting Now: Contemporary PaintersThursday 8 March 2007 - 6pm -7pm As part of a new initiative to introduce the current trends in art practice, Leeds Met Gallery is launching a series of evening talks. This introductory level talk on painting by John Crossley is presented in conjunction with Epoch. The talk will reflect on the exhibition in the gallery and include a discussion and visuals of other Contemporary Painters. The speaker will be talking about why painting is the way it is today and he will look at how different approaches to painting have come about and how contemporary paintings relate to traditional expectations. "Be Inspired" - Creative writing workshopSaturday 10 March 2007 - 2pm – 5pm Working in the Gallery, Jacqui Straker, a Leeds based writer, will run a workshop that explores Christopher Campbell’s paintings as the source of inspiration.
