The Morning Show

An imgae of Sherlock Holmes
The game's afoot

Carl and Gloria investigate....

Gloria Johnson
It was with great relish that Carl and I from BBC Radio Humberside's morning show were able to follow the clues that led us in to track down one of Britain's most celebrated crime authors.

Carl Wheatley and I love a good mystery. Carl never needs an excuse to dress up and I must say that a deerstalker hat, pipe and magnifying glass quite suited him as we, like faithful bloodhounds went on the trail of Fife born crime-writer Ian Rankin.

With dogged determination and a flair for the theatrical we decided to piece together the puzzle of the man who's made a career out of writing about dastardly wrong-doing.

We discovered he's a master of disguise having fooled employers into thinking he was a grape-picker, swine herder and a taxman. That's at least what his website says about him.

His Inspector Rebus books have received critical acclaim. His awards are numerous and he's even been honoured with an OBE by the Queen. The opportunity to collar our man came when he visited East Yorkshire to accept the title of "Honorary Doctor of Letters" at the University of Hull.

We hot-footed it to the scene of the crime and managed to nab our man and bundle him into our Queen's Gardens interview room. We set our tape recorder whirring for the interrogation.
