There was a chicken in the South Norwood area who would always crow after the air raids had finished, usually just before the all clear siren.
This one day, my Mother and Grandmother were in the air raid shelter at the bottom of the garden, when the all clear siren rang. They had not heard the chicken crow, therefore decided to stay in the shelter. They were glad they did when shortly after another bomb fell near by.
They always waited for the chicken to crow before leaving the shelter after that day.
