My fatherwas a Mechanical Engineer and worked for Adlam's of Bristol, his job was making sure that the machinery was kept running, he also was on Purdown with the Home Guard, as he was classed as a reserve occuaction. These people never seem to be mention when talking about the war effort. My mother Gwen Curtis made paracutes at St. George, they use nylon for the first time, I can remember her saying that the nylon was also bleached and used for Wedding Dresses,my father Don Curtis would also talk about the Americans who stayed at his mother's house in St.George
