Stansted House was the setting for the Girls Aloud Summer Concert. As part of their Chemistry Tour the girls performed in front of a packed audience of fans. Hannah's ReviewX FactorPersonally I have never been a fan of reality television, and since I do not follow X Factor I did not know the history of the two main support acts. To be fair to both acts they did provide great entertainment, both knew how to work the crowd. When Chico poured a bottle of water over himself (and over me!) The crowd went crazy, Journey South calmed things down a bit with some soothing love ballads. Yet despite these good performances the crowd were only interested in one act. In fact the chanting and high pitched squealing from the crowd reached fever pitch when the lights dimmed for Girls Aloud to take the stage. Girls AloudOpening with Biology the girls wore a variety of costumes all nautically themed. They then moved on through their variety of hits including Love Machine, the Sound of the Underground and I'll Stand by You.  | | Kimberley from Girls Aloud |
I love to dance to Girls Aloud tracks and the photo pit gave me the space in which to prance around like a fool. While taking pictures of the Girls I managed to incorporate my own version of Biology dancing, not that the crowd noticed. Overall they did perform exactly what the crowd was looking for. They wore the skimpy costumes that have made them appeal to the young male market. They sing the songs that appeal to me and girls my age who like to dance. I didn't want to leave, but the benefit of leaving after Love Machine was that we got to hear an alternative version of I'll Stand By You. Since Stansted House is in a valley, the car park gave an interesting echo to all the music. Alex's ReviewArriving on the Saturday night, I was surprised to be amongst the oldest there, the crowd mainly being small girls, accompanied by their dads. This feeling of being out of place continued as I watched members of the crowd humorously climbing the security fences for a glimpse of Chico and swooning every time he walked past.  | | Nadine from Girls Aloud |
Chico made me laugh with his antics, and seemed to have found a market in children's entertainment, with Journey South appealing more to the mums in the audience with their rocky pop. Girls Aloud: The look and the moves As for Girls Aloud themselves, I found that their music didn't capture my attention as much as their costumes and dance moves. They are like a package holiday deal, its all inclusive, the music doesn't make sense unless you're watching them doing the dance routine. You can't separate one from the other. To the majority of their audience, little girls, that makes perfect sense, you do the dance as you sing the song, as they do in playgrounds all over Britain.With an act like this the look is as important as the sound. |
